Pre Design
This is the point at which we begin to gather all of the
information that will ultimatley affect the quality of
life in your new home. There are many factors that
make each project unique. The building site,
orientation, views, desired spaces and their functions,
Aesthetics, Budget & more. This information is used
to mold your dreams into a home. We end up with a collaboration of information
specific to your needs that will be used throughout the entire design process. To
help this process along I ask all of my clients to
request our
"Home" Work Assignment. By filling out this questionnaire, you begin to assemble
the raw information required for a successful and fun project.
What to expect from our design process
Phase One - Schematic Design
Now that I have collected your input,
ideas, and dreams in the many different
forms of your own sketches, pictures,
cutouts from various magazines &
websites I can begin the Schematic
Drawings. I take this information and
begin the task of translating it into visual
concepts in the form of sketches, models
and preliminary drawings.
Phase Two - Design Documents
The objectives of this phase are different
from those in the schematic design phase.
In essence, they are further refinements of
the schematic design. This phase remains
developmental however technical in the
sense that exact sizes are assigned to
various components & structure. Code,
space requirements and material selection
begin to come into play. At this time we
begin drawing in AutoCAD to ensure our
ideas work as needed when accurately drawn.
Phase Three - Construction Documents
The Construction Documents phase takes the design
documents finalized and approved to clarify them for
construction. At this time all major design issues have been
determined. I spend time at this point on drawing proper
documentation unique to your project. Details are further
refined at this point and as the construction process calls
for the need. The main emphasis of this phase is to verify
that the information is on the drawings so that the project
can be bid for construction.
During Construction
I am always readily available to help and answer
questions during Construction. I like to check in on
occasion to see how the project is coming along,
take photos and talk shop with the contractors.
Although full Construction Supervision is not
provided under my basic design agreement this
service is available. A successful project is a
combination of many things. The most important
being a positive attitude among all team players
coupled with strong communication.
